Playing Outside in Your Cubby House Is Important All Winter Long

While it gets colder in the winter months, it is still very important for kids to get outside and play in their cubby house. Playing outdoor has too many benefits for your kids to be missing them all winter long or because the weather is bad. It is often thought that bad weather can get kids sick with viruses or colds. But that isn’t really the way we get viruses and colds. Those things are pasted from person to person. Your child is more likely to a cold or virus when they are cooped up inside with other people then they are when they are playing outside while dress appropriately for it. Here is a list of benefits of playing outside during the winter months that your kids will need.

Breathing fresh air every day is important to your child’s health. Stagnant air is to blame for viruses, including stomach bugs and colds. This is because the air inside keeps getting recycled over and over again and it is full of germs. While the outside air, especially in the cooler winter months, is fresher and cleaner. All the more reason to put a jacket and hat on your children and head them outside to their cubby house or cubby fort to play the afternoon away.

Your child’s development doesn’t stop during the winter months and they don’t stop being energetic. They still need you to provide a place for them to stretch and use their muscles and explore the outside world around them. Their cubby house it that perfect place. Being outside strengthens your child immune system. Studies have shown that children in rural areas who spend a lot of time outside working on farms, etc. have the best overall health. That is because they keep their bodies moving and exercising all year around.

Your kids will enjoy new experiences are had outside during the winter months. Does your child keep a journal or take pictures of the fuzzy little animals that live near his cubby house? These fun little fuzzy friends will act differently in the winter months, and you may see one or two new types of birds. These are exciting things for a young mind to explore.

Bundle up kids and let their creative juices flow. While it never really gets cold enough for snow, your kids can pretend it is falling. That will be much easier when it is cold enough for coats. Instead of sailing on the high seas, they can pretend their cubby is an igloo in the Antarctic and they have to hunt down the Abominable Snowman. Tons of new adventures await your children this winter using their favorite backyard toy, a cubby house.

You can also help your child do an experiment or two in the winter. Place a thermometer outside the cubby and have them track the temperatures each day on a chart that you’ve hung on the back of the cubby house wall. Have them compare their temperature readings with what the weatherman is predicting to see how accurate your weather reports are. Children really enjoy when their play activities tie into real life situations.

It has a rock wall that they can climb up, the slide to slide down in case you need to make a quick escape and a lookout fort – so I can see if someone is coming through the periscope. Then, have time to run and hideout in the cubby. I would love for your kids to be my friends and play inside my hideout with me… read more about Harry’s Hideout.
